Christmas Eve with the Gausses

I'm Jewish, we are raising our kids Jewish, and Jim has never really expressed any extreme desire to celebrate Christmas in our home.  It's a tough thing to figure out once you have kids, but we pretty much only celebrate Hanukkah this time of year - except on Christmas Eve.  We are fortunate enough to have great friends that have invited us into their home for Christmas Eve dinner for the past several years.  We look forward to it and always have a great time.

Tonight was no exception.  We ventured up to Boulder (Hannah was very excited to see "the Boulders") and shared some food, wine and fun with Uncle CJ, Aunt Melanie, and "Paca and ZZ" (CJ's parents Cal and Susie, visiting from Arizona).  Melanie made a delicious dinner and decorated the table to the nines.

The kids got drunk on sugar (note that Hannah's dessert is only cool whip; she declined the pie but accepted cool whip as her "cupcake" - maybe she thought it was icing?).

ZZ read Hannah a bunch of books.  Hannah loves ZZ!  Uncle CJ also read books to Hannah (Mason joined the fun).

The kids exchanged gifts.  Hannah received a green garbage/recycling truck.  She was very excited about it, but then saw what Mason got (a cookie baking set) and tried to steal it.  Little does she know she's also getting her very own cookie baking set from Ellie Mae.  I'm sure she'll say "Mason!" when she opens it (she's no fool, she knows she tried to steal Mason's cookies).

The only thing that would make the night better is if the kids realize that they should sleep in because they went to bed late.
