We decided that it's time for us to have only one bedtime routine, rather than put the girls down separately. (Thanks for my friend Daniela, with kids a couple months older than mine, for reminding me that it's okay to do this!) The first couple nights have gone fairly well, despite one child or the other getting upset at some point over the change in routine. They really seem to like reading their bedtime books together. They sit next to each other on the floor (or Emma will plop in my lap) and listen intently. And let's not forget the march up the stairs on the way to bed, Hannah holding Emma's hand to help keep her steady as she walked, rather than crawled, up the stairs. Or how Hannah told Daddy "I calmed Emma down" after she'd been having a tantrum (and he HAD calmed her down). They are sweet sisters.
After reading tonight, Hannah asked if she could have a sleepover with Emma. She wanted Emma to stay in her room for sleep, not just books and song. I wonder if putting them in the same room would get Jim and I more sleep in the morning... Hannah's trips downstairs to help herself to cheese (four slices this morning!) have certainly helped. Hey, whatever works.
